REGISTER NOW!

Registration is now open for the 2009 GrizzlyMan Adventure Race and the Black Bear Challenge. Make sure you take advantage of the significant discounts offered to early registrants.

The 2nd Annual GrizzlyMan Adventure Race, brought to you by The Rocky Mountaineers, is scheduled for April 18th, 2009!  The race will take place at the 28,000 acre Lubrecht Experimental Forest and The Resort at Paws Up. Nestled in the mountains of western Montana and situated 30 miles northeast of Missoula, this combined 65,000 acre rugged landscape will provide a challenging venue to racers of all skill levels. Racers can compete solo or as 2 person teams (non-relay). Team categories will include male, female, and coed with the winning coed team receiving $400 towards their 2009 USARA Nationals registration! Registration is limited to 300 participants. Due to the preparation required for an event of this scale, race-day registration will not be permitted.

Although both races are USARA sanctioned events, only the GrizzlyMan Adventure Race will be a qualifier for 2009 USARA Nationals! With finish times estimated at 6-10 hours, racers will be required to whitewater paddle, trail run, and mountain bike all while navigating to checkpoints established throughout the race area.

Race leg distances will vary slightly depending on individual course navigation. However, racers should be prepared to run/trek approximately 10-12 miles, paddle 4 miles of no more than Class II whitewater, and cycle roughly 20 miles.

The Black Bear Challenge will be a slightly less intense 2-4 hour course for racers interested in an introduction to adventure racing. The Black Bear Challenge will not include paddling or water navigation. Including a combination of trail running, mountain biking as well as off-trail navigation/orienteering, The Black Bear Challenge will be similar to the inaugural (2008) GrizzlyMan event.

Competitors should be prepared to run/trek roughly 6 miles and cycle roughly 15 miles.

A limited number of 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom cabins and homes are available at The Resort at Paws Up (the location of the start/end of the race). Contact them at 1-800-473-0601 for more information on rates and information. Additional rooms, cabins, and campsites are also available at the Lubrecht Experimental Forest. Please contact the Lubrecht Experimental Forest for rates and reservation information. Numerous lodging options are available in Missoula, MT located 30 miles southwest of the race site. Please note that lodging is not coordinated through this race.
